England makes up the southern part of the island of Great Britain and is bordered by Scotland and Wales. England’s landscape is varied depending on the region, with mountains in the north and rolling hills in the south. England’s most famous mountain range is the Pennines, which divide the east and west. England’s other main landscape feature is flat marshland that makes up most of the eastern half of the nation.
While much of England is countryside and rural areas, England also has many bustling metropolises to call its own. England’s biggest city is London and is also the center of political and financial life in the nation. Some of the other large cities include Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool.
England has a temperate climate and has plentiful rainfall all year round. England’s prevailing wind is from the southwest and brings in mild and wet weather to England year round from the Atlantic Ocean. In most parts of England, January and February are the coldest months; so avoid travel to England during these months if possible, as there may not be conditions suitable for sightseeing. The best months to visit England are probably May, June, September and October. These months generally have the most pleasant temperatures and minimal rain. July and August are the warmest months, but they are also the wettest with the most tourists.
