People
One of the most important things to do on a trip to England is to get to know the English people, the heart and soul of England. English people are very warm and friendly and are very proud of their culture and their heritage. They have a very strong culture and love family, food and laughter. Here are a few things to know about the English people:
- Communication should not be a problem with the English natives, as English is the official language. However, most English people have very strong British accents and have a very different vocabulary than we do here in the Untied States. In some parts of England, you may hear the traditional languages of Cornish or Welsh being spoken.
- Religion is a very big part of the English way of life. Most people in England are Catholic, Christian or Protestant and attend church regularly. You may find that many public places are closed on Sunday in observance of the Sabbath.
- Many English people, especially in small towns, are very family-oriented. They take great pride in their family and will usually sit down to dinner as a family a couple of times a week.
- Out of most cultures in the world, English and American cultures are very similar. Take advantage of our similarities and get to know the English people. You could make a lifelong friend!
English people are very proud of their culture and their heritage, so when you travel in England make sure that you respect that.
