Stonehenge

History
Stonehenge is one of the crown jewels of English history and is one of the most historic monuments in the world. Rivaled only by the Pyramids of Egypt, Stonehenge is thought to have been constructed about 5,000 years ago. Stonehenge was constructed in a series of phases, with the last phase being completed in about 1500 B.C. One of the reasons that Stonehenge is so intriguing is because much of the history surrounding the structure still remains a mystery to this day. No one is certain of when, why and how Stonehenge was built, and we may never be given answer to these perplexing questions.

Visiting Stonehenge
Since Stonehenge is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the world, you will want to plan your visit to this historic site well in advance. Stonehenge is located in southern England approximately two miles outside of the town of Amesbury. If you are staying in London, there will be many trains and buses connecting between London and Stonehenge daily for a reasonable rate. You will want to commit at least one full day to visiting Stonehenge, as lines tend to be very long. When you come, it is advisable that you wear good walking shoes and have sunglasses, light clothing and plenty of sun block if you are visiting in the summer months. The ideal time of year to visit Stonehenge is in May or September, when the weather is pleasant and there are fewer tourists.
